Platform requirements:
Low, stable platform
The “short” side of the platform need to be at least as wide as the distance between the dog’s back feet
At least as long as the distance between the dog’s front feet and their butt when sitting + 1-2 inches
No higher than the dog’s hock (i.e., ankle) height
Use a lower height platform in the beginning
Exercise:
Have dog stand with front feet on the platform, and “tuck” their back feet up into a sit on the platform
What to do:
Lure/cue dog to stand square with front feet on the platform, back feet on the floor. We can ask the dog place the front feet so they would have enough room to sit, but it is not necessary.
Mark + treat with head in neutral position
Lure dog up and forward or cue dog to “tuck” their back feet up onto the platform into a sit
Mark + treat
Progression options:
Increase the number of repetitions
Combine with Sit -> Kick back stand
